If you or your senior loved one have been looking into various senior living options, you may have some questions about the differences between independent or assisted living for seniors. Although there are many resources you can find online, it’s highly recommended that you tour the VRS retirement community in person to really get an idea of what you can expect while living in seniors housing.

Here are 4 frequently asked questions about assisted living at seniors housing in at VRS

1. How will I adjust to living in a seniors housing community when I won’t be surrounded by my things? Won’t it feel like I’m living in a hotel?

VRS Communities allows you to bring in and decorate your suite with your belongings to make it feel more like home. We never want our residents to feel out of place or homesick so we highly recommend personalizing it with cherished possessions that hold a special place in your heart.

2. Do I have to use assisted living services to live at VRS

No, we are an independent living seniors community. You do not have to utilize the additional assisted living care services offered here at the VRS senior housing community. However, should you require additional care in future there are several options available to have private or public care come to you while living at VRS.

3. I’ve been living at my house for so long and have built a connection with my neighbours here, won’t I lose that when I move into assisted living seniors housing?

Moving into seniors housing does not mean you will lose your independence. You can still maintain contact with family, friends and neighbours and invite them to enjoy with you in your new seniors community. Another benefit to living in a seniors community is forming new friendships with seniors you see on a regular basis. There are many opportunities to meet new people organically such as during an activity or over a meal – you don’t have to worry about trying too hard to find a friend here!

4. I’d like to think I’m pretty active at home, how would it be any different when I’m living at VRS?

At VRS there are many different activities you can try to stay active by using the amenities available here in the retirement community. The recreation coordinator also organizes some activities for you to try in a group setting which is not always fitness focused, so you have more new things to try.
